This tool itemizes the government fees that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) charges for the most common applications: processing fees, the right of permanent residence fee, and the biometrics fee. Every amount comes from IRCC's official fee list (page modified September 21, 2026) and IRCC's "Fee changes" page, both checked on October 19, 2026. The amounts are in Canadian dollars and do not include third-party costs such as medical exams, police certificates, language tests, educational credential assessments, visa application centre service charges, provincial nomination fees or professional fees.
How the total is built
- Processing fee. Charged per person. For permanent residence it is $990 for the principal applicant and $990 for an accompanying spouse or partner in the economic programs ($1,895 for a business principal applicant), $660 each in the humanitarian and protected person classes, and $270 or $180 per accompanying dependent child. For family sponsorship it is the $90 sponsorship fee plus $570 for the sponsored principal applicant.
- Right of permanent residence fee. $600 for the principal applicant and for an accompanying or sponsored spouse or partner. It is not charged for dependent children, protected persons, sponsored dependent or adopted children, or orphaned relatives. It can be paid later, before permanent residence is granted, and IRCC refunds it if the application is withdrawn or refused.
- Biometrics fee. $85 per person, $170 maximum for a family applying together, $255 maximum for a group of 3 or more performing artists applying together. Children under 14 and applicants 80 or older are exempt, and biometrics given in the last 10 years are reused for temporary residence applications.
- Open work permit holder fee. $100 on top of the $155 work permit fee for an open work permit, including the post-graduation work permit, a spousal open work permit or a bridging open work permit.
- Family maximum for visitor visas. $100 per person, $500 maximum for a family of 5 or more applying at the same time and place; the children must qualify as dependants.

When fees change
Permanent residence fees are indexed every two years. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (section 303(1.1)) index the right of permanent residence fee on April 30 every two years to the cumulative increase in the Consumer Price Index, rounded to the nearest five dollars, and IRCC's "Fee changes" page shows the same cycle for all permanent residence fees: the last two adjustments took effect on April 30, 2024 and April 30, 2026 (for example, the right of permanent residence fee went from $575 to $600 and the Express Entry principal applicant fee from $950 to $990). The next two-year adjustment would fall on April 30, 2028. Inadmissibility and restoration fees were adjusted on December 1, 2024 and December 1, 2025, and the right of citizenship fee on March 31, 2025 and March 31, 2026. Visitor visa, study permit, work permit, eTA and biometrics fees have not changed in this period. If you pay an old amount after a change, IRCC asks for the difference before it continues processing.
Limits of this estimate
Estimate only. The tool applies the fee list to the family composition you enter. It does not decide who counts as a dependent child, who must give biometrics or whether a fee exemption applies (for example, protected persons and some public policies have no processing fee, and some applicants are exempt from biometrics). Provincial nominee programs charge their own nomination fees, Quebec charges its own fees, and employers pay the LMIA fee or the employer compliance fee separately. Always confirm the amount shown on the IRCC fee list on the day you pay.
